4 Things To Consider When Purchasing A New Harley Davidson Motorcycle

Before purchasing your new motorcycle, there are a few important things to consider to ensure that the investment decision you make is a good one. Here are some considerations that shouldn't be overlooked.

1. Test Driving

One important consideration to make when choosing a dealership to purchase your new motorcycle from is your test-driving options. If the dealership will only allow you to test a motorcycle you're interested in on their lot, you can't gain the personal insight you need to determine whether the bike will handle the way you expect and prefer while on the open road.

So, it's important to make sure that the dealership you work with will allow you to take a motorcycle you're interested in buying out on the road and highway. And you should be able to drive the bike yourself, not just ride as a passenger.

2. Storage Space

Another thing to consider when purchasing a new motorcycle is storage space. No motorcycle comes stocked with much storage space to begin with, so you'll want to think about how you can add some storage to the bike you decide to invest in.

You should make sure that the motorcycle you buy can comfortably accommodate a set of large saddlebags and an aftermarket "trunk" that can be attached to the back of the seat. You may even want to make sure that your new bike's seat can be replaced with one that is hollow inside for even more storage.

3. Warranty Options

It's also a good idea to find out what kind of warranty options are available through the dealership you'll be buying your motorcycle from. You can expect your new motorcycle to come with a limited manufacturer's warranty, but you should also be able to purchase an extended warranty through the dealership that will provide you with financial protection if your bike breaks down and needs repairs in the coming years.

If the dealership doesn't offer extended warranties, you need to know about it before buying your motorcycle so that you can find and purchase coverage from a third-party provider and ensure that the coverage is started on the day that you drive your new bike off the sales lot.

4. Ongoing Maintenance

You should also think about ongoing maintenance while buying your new motorcycle, as tune-ups and inspections should start soon after you take it home. The dealership you buy the bike from may have an auto shop onsite where you can take the motorcycle for maintenance and repairs as time goes on. At the very least, they should be able to recommend a reliable service provider in your area that can handle your long-term maintenance needs. So make sure to ask about ongoing maintenance while consulting with your dealership's sales associate.
